Carson Valley Trail

National Park Service

Genoa Foothill Trail System

Nevada Division of State Lands
Question 1 Grant Program
$396,378
Received: August, 2008

In partnership with the Nevada Division of State Lands, U.S. Forest Service and Douglas County, this grant will fund two-thirds of the approximate 24-mile trail system in the Genoa area, and fund the construction of the Adams Canyon Trailhead. This project proposes two general loop trails, a connecting trail up Sierra Canyon to the Tahoe Rim Trail and a connecting trail to the Old Kingsbury Grade in the Pine Basin area. Environmental impact studies and public input are required.

Currently, this project is in the beginning phases. Environmental studies are expected to begin this Spring, 2009. Project completion is anticipated in 2012. The CVTA is required to raise approximately $242,000 to complete the environmental studies and construction costs for the final one-third of the project and fulfill the cash match required by the Question 1 Program. NV Energy supports diverse, local community projects through their grants program. This grant award will fund construction costs and materials for a kiosk to be placed at one of the access points to the Genoa Foothill Trail System. This kiosk will display area and trail information, safety guidelines, environmental ethics and use regulations.

Fay-Luther/Jobs Peak Ranch Signage

Nevada State Parks
Recreational Trails Program
$17,555
Received: September, 2008

In partnership with Nevada State Parks, U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management, this grant is funding interpretive and directional signs throughout the 8.8-mile trail system. Directional signs will be placed at nearly 20 trail junctions to identify trail names, locations and distances. Private property awareness and educational signs will also be installed at designated locations. These signs are anticipated for installation this coming Spring, 2009. Completed April 2009

One of these trails is the 1.2-mile Interpretive Loop. Eleven interpretive signs will be placed along the trail explaining the geography and ecosystems of the Fay-Luther Trail System and how humans have interacted with the geography and ecosystems. These signs are anticipated for installation in 2010. There will also be 5,000 updated CVTA brochures printed after all signs are installed.

Fay-Luther/Jobs Peak Ranch Signage Completed April 2009

American Hiking Society
National Trails Fund
$3,600
Received: May, 2008

This prestigious grant will fund the materials and printing costs for three high pressure, digitally laminated trail map signs. Maps will be placed at the Jobs Peak Ranch Trailhead, Fay-Luther Trailhead and at a major trail junction. Additional remaining funds will go toward directional signs at trail junctions.
